FBI refuses to get involved in Bachaliashvili case

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has refused to get involved in Bachaliashvili's case. Public Defender Nino Lomjaria stated about it after the meeting with the Prosecutor, General Irakli Shotadze.

"We asked questions about FBI involvement. As we were told, there was prior communication with the relevant attaché and the possibility of co-operation. However, as the prosecution said, the FBI says it is not within their competence to investigate this case," Lomjaria said.

The Public Defender of Georgia met with the Prosecutor General today.

Irakli Shotadze and Nino Lomjaria talked about the criminal case of Tamar Bachaliashvili's death at the meeting held at the Prosecutor's Office.

A 23-year-old Tamar Bachaliashvili, who disappeared from Ponichala, was found dead in her car in Tetritskaro on July 22, 4 days later.

The case is being investigated under the articles of illegal deprivation of liberty and leading individuals to suicide.

On August 4, the family of a young programmer held a protest rally in front of the US Embassy in Georgia and demanded the FBI's involvement in the investigation. They were then met by an embassy representative and explained that the FBI's request for involvement was the prerogative of the state.
