"I do not have much to say. I had information that my liquidation might have been on the agenda, and it was not a surprise to me, but I had very general information. I was not told about the details, so I cannot speak to the investigation, because I do not know anything else," journalist Giorgi Gabunia said.
"I know they were watching because my bodyguards noticed. State Security Service of the country informed me, they knew about it and even warned me not to talk to anyone about it. The surveillance has been going on for at least during the last two months," he said.
As for the possible motive for the liquidation, Gabunia said, "It is clear to everyone."
"The motive is what I have suggested, and I think it's clear to everyone. What more could there be to motivate my liquidation if someone wanted to do it, especially from Russia?" Gabunia said.
According to the Mtvarai Arxi, a person arrested in Tbilisi was planning to kill the TV presenter Giorgi Gabunia. Nika Gvaramia said the person was carrying out the order of the Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov.
The State Security Service released a statement on June 15 regarding the incident.
Later, Nika Gvaramia and Giorgi Gabunia were summoned to the State Security Service for questioning as witnesses, but none arrived at the agency. They demanded an interrogation before the magistrate judge. Together with Giorgi Gabunia, Nika Gvaramia will also appear in court today.
