The Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights supported the draft law on amnesty prepared by the Georgian Dream in the first reading. Within the committee, MPs debated the changes for six hours today.

An alternative bill prepared by the opposition and presented by Shalva Shavgulidze was put to the vote today. The opposition version was not supported.

As for the draft law of the Georgian Dream, the draft exempts from criminal liability and punishment all persons who committed crimes related to the events of June 19-21, 2019, and do not refuse to extend amnesty to them.

The amnesty also applies to a person who has committed or attempted to commit a crime related to the events of June 19-21, 2019.

Exemption from criminal liability and punishment also applies to probation. The fine imposed for the crime related to the events of June 19-21, 2019, which has been executed, will not be returned to the convict.
