The Investigative Department of the State Inspector's Office has launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of power using weapons by MIA employees in Zugdidi.
According to the agency, preliminary investigative actions are being carried out; the evidence is being obtained.
"The Investigative Department of the State Inspector's Office launched an investigation on February 26, 2021, during the persecution operation in Zugdidi, on the fact of alleged abuse of power by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under Article 333, Part 3, Subsection "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Initial investigative actions are being carried out by the investigators of the State Inspector's Office. Experts are inspecting the scene and obtaining material evidence.
Witnesses are also identified for questioning and other necessary investigative/procedural actions. A medical examination will be scheduled.
The Office of the State Inspector will conduct all necessary investigative and procedural actions on time to ensure an effective investigation," the statement said.
A two-way shooting ended with the victim in Zugdidi today.
