“Irakli Okruashvili is a political prisoner, and I think this is clear for everyone,” Former Defence Minister Irakli Okruashvili’s spouse Irina Gordeladze told journalists before the court trial.
Irina Gordeladze defines the previous court trial as fake and expresses hope that this time a fair judge will preside over the trial.
“It seemed that all decisions have been made beforehand without any evidence being taken into consideration. I hope the situation will change, and a fair judge will preside over the court trial,” declared Gordeladze.
The court trial, at which formed Defence Minsiter Irakli Okruashvili’s case is discussed, is being underway in the Tbilisi City Court.
Mr. Okruashvili was accused of the crime referred to in Article 225 of the Criminal Code of Georgia envisaging organizing, leading or taking part in civil unrest. He was detained due to the connection to 20-21 June developments.
Mr. Okruashvili’s lawyers appealed against the verdict by The Tbilisi City Court, but failed to change it.
Irakli Okruashvili is now serving his prison sentence in the so-called Matrosov Prison.
