"I am saying this without any doubt that the court should release Mikheil Kalandia on February 21. He should continue receiving education at the law faculty. In his time, he will become a professional prosecutor who will not fulfill any orders from the authorities," Zurab Todua, Kalandia's human rights defender, said.
The lawyer thinks that the authorities are to blame for delaying the case. According to Todua, they have proof.
"I blame the government for complicating the case. Zaza Saralidze would not have as many questions if relevant authorities investigated the case in time. The objective judge, will not be able to change a word in a text that I am going to read on February 21, for it will be an accurate analysis and diagnosis of what happened on Khorava Street. The case should be assessed legally and not politically," the lawyer said.
Law enforcers detained Mikheil Kalandia on June 4, 2019, for the murder of Davit Saralidze in aggravated circumstances on Khorava Street. He remanded in custody on June 6.
A bloody altercation involving teenagers took place on December 1, 2017, on Khorava street. Two minors, Davit Saralidze and Levan Dadunashvili, died following the conflict.
The case is in the final stage, and Kalandia will find out the verdict on February 21.
