Investigator Mariana Choloiani detained over 15-year-old Luka Siradze's death has reportedly been taken to the Department of Corrections. Choloiani's lawyer said they plan to appeal against the court ruling.
The lawyer claims that the detained investigator did not put any pressure on either the minor or any witness.
"Despite the legal representative defining pressure as coercion, which allegedly resulted in obtaining the forced confession from the witness, Mariana Choloiani never obtained the confession. The questioning was held, and the minor ruled out the possibility that he committed the act," the investigator's lawyer Teona Gvazava told journalists.
Mariana Choloiani, the investigator at the Didube-Chughureti Police Division, was detained over forcing a 15-year-old minor to give testimony.
Luka Siradze,15, who had attempted to take his own life, passed away at Iashvili Children's hospital on 17 December.
Before a suicide attempt, the teenager was summoned to the police station for questioning. Information saying that the boy tried to commit suicide after being subjected to pressure by the police was disseminated to the public. However, the MIA denied this information. They stressed that the deceased minor was interrogated in his parents' presence.
