The Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi, and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have launched an investigation under Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia into damaging or destroying someone else's belongings in the village of Gumati.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the iron dams placed by the police near Gumati HPP for security purposes have been damaged.

"Opponents of Namakhvani HPP construction moved from Tbilisi to Rioni gorge yesterday and continued their protest rally in Gumati. The crowd hurled stones and various objects at police security dams throughout the night. The Ministry is studying the fact of violation and will follow the appropriate legal response.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to abide by the law and to obey the lawful demands of the police during their freedom of assembly and expression," the statement said.
