The trial of Nika Melia, the Chairperson of the United National Movement, has been scheduled for 16:00 at the Tbilisi City Court.

The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia applied to the Tbilisi City Court yesterday with a motion to change the measure of restraint imposed on Melia.

According to the Prosecutor of the case Mikheil Sadradze, the Prosecutor's office demands the use of a more severe measure of restraint against Melia - detention, as it is a proportionate measure.

The Parliament of Georgia lifted Nika Melia's immunity and supported the Prosecutor General's motion to apply to the court to use detention as a measure of restraint against the Chairperson of the United National Movement.

At the joint sitting of the Committees on Procedural and Legal Affairs, where the Prosecutor General Amiran Guluashvili introduced the motion and arguments to the Committee members, the majority unanimously supported the consent of the Investigative Agency. One of the leaders of the "Citizens," Levan Ioseliani, voted against it.

According to the Tbilisi City Court decision of June 27, 2019, he was sentenced to the bail of GEL 30 000 as a measure of restraint.

The restraint measures due to non-fulfillment of the bail conditions got tightened, and the bail got increased by GEL 40 000.

Nika Melia was summoned to the Prosecutor's Office, but he did not show up. The Prosecutor's office gave Nika Melia an additional one week to comply with the bail conditions, which have expired.
