According to the Special Penitentiary Service, an inmate can not be admitted to a penitentiary due to the coronavirus symptoms for a week now. According to the Agency, at this stage, nine detainees were not allowed into the prison. These actions are related to the prevention of the possible spread of the new coronavirus.

"The medical examination of the accused in the penitentiary establishments is carried out outside of the building, in a specially equipped medical unit. If the accused has no symptoms and an inmate or his family members have no history of traveling abroad in the nearest future, then he is placed in the so-called quarantine zone for 21 days. If the defendants have any suspicious symptoms, they will receive treatment at the clinic. Nine of the defendants got tested; their results are not positive," reads the statement.

There are 33 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Georgia, of which one cured. 637 people remain in quarantine, and 54 in hospital.
