PM on Shakarashvili's case: Questions must be answered immediately

"Unfortunately, we have not overcome this difficult problem, and in some cases, certain people are trying to use human tragedies for political reasons," the Prime Minister said, referring to the death of Giorgi Shakarashvili.

According to Giorgi Gakharia, the relevant investigative agencies have a direct obligation to the public not to leave unanswered questions.

"I personally and we have a tough experience, which means that we should learn our lessons. Therefore, the agencies must answer all questions asked by the public in the coming hours and days. This is their obligation, and I am sure they will deal with their responsibilities," Gakharia said.

Giorgi Shakarashvili's family notified the police of his missing on 19 June, with the police starting search and rescue operations immediately.

After four days of non-stop efforts, divers found young Shakarashvili's body in the river Aragvi.

The investigation was launched, with the sportsmen involved in the case questioned.

The MIA detained 17 people over the young footballer's death. They face the charges of group violence, illegal deprivation of liberty, and subjecting two or more individuals to physical abuse.
