Thirteen people were arrested in Ureki for assaulting police officers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

"The investigation has established that on June 24 of 2021, officers of the Ureki Police Department of the Ozurgeti District Division arrested Sh.L., born in 1988, in Ureki for the offense provided for in Articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

Later, acquaintances of the detainee gathered near the police building, attacked police officers, and verbally and physically assaulted them. Law enforcers have arrested the perpetrators of the crime as accused," the statement said.

According to the agency, the fact of assault on a police officer is being investigated under the first part of Article 353 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The offense carries a maximum sentence of 4 to 7 years in prison.
