Strasbourg Court decision on involving ombudswoman in Saakashvili's case known

The European Court of Human Rights has rejected ombudswoman Nino Lomjaria's request to be involved in ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili's case as the third party.

The Strasbourg Court expanded on its decision by specifying that similar procedures can be envisaged when the essential part of the case is under discussion, and no similar discussion has yet started in the case of Saakashvili.

Lomjaria says that, in general, the ECHR does not prohibit similar involvements, and the practice exists.

The public defender plans to submit another request to the court when the essential part of the case is reviewed.
