The Gurjaani City Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man to 10 years in prison for the alleged rape of a minor, according to the Human Rights Center. The NGO informs that following coerced sexual intercourse, the girl got pregnant, and after the child was born, to keep his crime under wraps, the offender suggested that the girl get engaged to his 14-year-old son.
"Following the investigative activities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs learned that a man, known only as I.B., engaging in an unwanted sexual activity through threats with a 16-year-old minor and got her pregnant. She delivered a baby on 31 May 2019. The DNA genetic testing proved that I.B. was the child's father.
In order to avoid punishment, the man facing rape charges suggested that she get engaged to his boy,14, promising her that after turning 16, the boy would have married her.
The investigation into the crime was launched, with the crime envisaging from 10 to 13 years in prison," the information reads.
