Wooden floor to be returned to Colosseum

The Colosseum in Rome (Flavian Amphitheater) will regain its wooden floor by 2023, demolished in the 19th century due to archeological work. The new moving construction will allow the Colosseum to hold cultural events in the arena. The Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities of Italy, Dario Franceschini, revealed the information about the construction.

The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities decided to restore the old floor of the Colosseum in 2020 and announced a competition. 18.5 million euros were allocated for the reconstruction. Milan Ingegneria will implement the project.

According to Franceschini, the reconstruction will allow the Colosseum to be as close as possible to its original appearance. The new arena will protect the Colosseum from rain and damp and will be a prerequisite for good ventilation of its underground parts.
