Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani said that Azerbaijan had been informed of the ongoing investigation of Davit Gareja issue. In his words, this constitutes an immensely sensitive subject and must be treated delicately.
"I have discussed this issue at the meeting with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister. I made well-measured statements at the joint press conference, for this is an extremely delicate and sensitive issue, which is paramount in our relations," Davit Zalkaliani said, adding that the Georgian side has obtained critical materials, such as cartographic maps, international and local experts' opinions, with these materials enabling them to require that the 2006-2007 agreements be reconsidered.
"This happened before tensions had flared up between Armenia and Azerbaijan; however, our opposition took an absolutely irresponsible and anti-national step by linking the issue to Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict," the Georgian Foreign Minister said, and added that despite everything, he is confident that the sides will come to an agreement which will be acceptable for both of them.
