Charles Michel: I call on the opposition and the government to engage in dialogue

"My visit is taking place during the political crisis in Georgia. When there is an aggravated crisis, of course, it worries the EU and me personally," Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, said at a news conference after meeting with Salome Zurabishvili.

He also underlined the commitments made by Georgia, which are reflected in the Association Agreement.

"The European Union calls on all parties to work intensively to neutralize the situation. It will be a responsible action. I call on the opposition and the government for dialogue. In the afternoon, I will have the opportunity to have a frank and open conversation with the Prime Minister, the Chairperson of Parliament, and the leaders of the opposition parties. I know that political debates require "leadership," the involvement of all parties. I am convinced that Georgia has every opportunity to take up this challenge and consolidate these democratic bases not only in its connection with Europe but also by consolidating its democratic bases to protect human rights in this country in order to fulfill the wishes of the people, to create political stability, which will be strengthened by open democracy, an independent judiciary, to strengthen the relations between Georgia and the European Union. These goals, of course, are reflected in our Association Agreement, which is very ambitious. It reflects the European side and includes Georgia's commitments," said Charles Michel.
