According to the Press Office of the Georgian President, President Salome Zurabishvili has hosted representatives of different NGOs and expanded on her initiative of national reconciliation.
''For me, as for the president, creating a platform which will help us launch a dialogue to discuss topics having caused a rift in the country, sparked confrontations, and made us each other's nemeses is paramount.
We are unable to find the strength to put our heads together and discuss issues that are critical for this country's development and its future, whether it be economic, social, or legal issues.
In order to find the strength, we must assess our past and come to an agreement,'' Zurabishvili said, adding that the process will not commence with reconciliation of different political parties. According to the president, she lacks the levers to bring the conflicting parties together as the breach between them is so hard to heal that even the EU failed to do so.
''The most precious New Year gift for the country is that we all who have come to this palace today manage to start a dialogue,'' the president stressed.
