Ivanishvili will lose any elections based on any kind of system since the opposition will have an absolutely clear and effective plan, declared former parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili after the meeting with left wingers.
„Today, Ivanishvili has revolted against the Georgian state... I cannot name any political force which does not stand by us today, and Ivanishvili's attempt to usurp power is undoubtedly doomed to failure," stated Mr Usupashvili and added that proportional elections may still be implemented in the country. "Ivanishvili's aim is to tire us, emotionally drain us; he wants us to suffer a stroke so that we start making mistakes. We are not going to make mistakes though,"stated Usupashvili.
The Parliament of Georgia rejected the bill on proportional electoral system at the plenary sitting.
138 deputies were registered on the first attempt, 139 on the second,141 on the third. A total of 113 votes were required to approve the proposed amendments. After the bill was rejected, a number of MPs left the majority.
Leader of the ruling party Bidzina Ivanishvili released his statement on the ongoing developments.
