The de facto parliament of Abkhazia approved the resignation of Raul Khajimba.

Raul Khajimba will not run for president in the so-called elections.

Hundreds of people gathered at the summer cottage of the Abkhazian de-facto president, demanding the resignation of Raul Khajimba on January 12.

Based on the Russian media sources, the armed law-enforcers protected the building. Khajimba had held a meeting with the leader of the opposition, Aslan Bzhania, beforehand. They had agreed that Khajimba would make a retirement announcement.

Consequent to the development, the Assistant of the Russian President, Vladislav Surikov arrived in Sukhumi.

The so-called repeat presidential elections were scheduled for March 22 in Abkhazia. Tamaz Gogia, the chairman of the alleged central election commission, informed journalists that the members of the election commission decided on repeat elections unanimously. The so-called Supreme Court ruled that a repeat election would be held on January 10.

Protests were staged in Sokhumi on January 9, with activists storming the parliament and demanding resignation of de facto President of Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, Raul Khajimba. However, Khajimba said that he was not going to step down.

The document the drafters of which called upon Raul Khajimba to resign was approved yesterday, with 19 "deputies" having voted for it, and four voted against him. One "deputy" refrained from voting.

In the first round of the so-called elections, Raul Khajimba received 47.39% of electoral votes, Alkhan Kvitsinia 46.17%, while in the second round, he emerged a winner with 66.55% of votes.
