The Minister of Health Ekaterine Tikaradze will meet the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and the spiritual leader of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia II, today, on March 18, the Ministry of Health reported.
The agency does not specify what will be the issue of discussion at the meeting. According to them, the minister will arrive at the Patriarchate at 14:00.
It is possible that the meeting will be related to the support of the Patriarchate in the vaccination process.
A few days ago, Amiran Gamkrelidze, the director of the National Center for Disease Control, appealed to the Holy Synod and priests for help in the vaccination process. Andria Jagmaidze, the head of the Patriarchate's press center, responded to Gamkrelidze on the social network and noted that vaccination is voluntary and the church cannot take responsibility for promoting vaccination, as it is the competence and responsibility of health workers.
Later, an official statement with the same content was issued by the Georgian Patriarchate.
