Ex-leader Saakashvili's hospital note: Other waves of protests will erupt in the country

In another hospital note, ex-pres. Mikheil Saakashvili focuses on the significance of a mass hunger strike, saying that he wants to remind those who deem hunger strike an ineffective form of protest that Mahatma Gandhi managed to bring independence thanks to it to India, and Nelson Mandela and his comrade-in-arms destroyed apartheid.

In his note, Saakashvili also brings other examples of hunger strike yielding desired results, including Georgia's 1988 hunger strike laying the foundation for the national movement.

Saakashvili also focused on hunger strike not being safe by bringing examples of its victims such as Georgian dissident Nazi Shamanauri and famous Ukrainian poet and dissident Anatoly Marchenko. For this reason, the ex-president called upon his hunger-striking supporters to be under doctors' supervision and take mineral additives, saying that they helped Ukrainian film director Anatoly Sentsov to declare a 120-day hunger strike.

''Hopefully, we will not need such a long time as, in addition to the hunger strike, other waves of protests will erupt in the country as the government has crossed all lines and is oppressing and laughing at its people,'' Saakashvili said in his note.
