Georgia protests: 'Do not rise public transport fare to our poor people'

For People party members have staged a protest rally outside the Tbilisi City Assembly. They held banners reading 'Do not rise public transport fare to our poor people.'

Rally participants called upon authorities to refuse to drive their luxury cars and travel in public transport like ordinary citizens do.

Protesters say that people who work for GEL 400 or 500 to make ends meet cannot pay GEL 250 for public transport fares. ''Those who are not aware in the slightest of what kind of challenges our people have to cope with have come up with this idea,'' For People party leader Ana Dolidze said.

The new public transport payment system is to be introduced in Georgia in February.
