The Foreign Ministry of Georgia says that Georgian Defense Minister Davit Zalkaliani is discussing the issue of returning Georgian citizens in Afghanistan to their homeland with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia says that it carried out negotiations with Georgia's partner countries and organizations to assist Georgian citizens in leaving Afghanistan. Ukraine stood ready to transport them, but the situation in Afghanistan hampered their advancement to the Kabul airport.

At this point, 23 citizens of Georgia are in Afghanistan.

The Taliban swept into Afghanistan’s capital on Aug 15 after the government collapsed and the embattled president joined an exodus of his fellow citizens and foreigners, signaling the end of a costly two-decade U.S. campaign to remake the country.
