Georgian PM: I have amicable relations with Muslim community

Georgian PM Irakli Gharibashvili said that he has amicable relations with the Muslim community and stands ready to support its members.

In the Prime Minister's words, the government allocated GEL 5 million for the Muslim community in Batumi.

''We funded the Batumi mosque rehabilitation works and build a separate residence for the Mufti. Also, we worked on constructing the education institution; This project has lingered slightly far too long; as you are aware, I was not among the government members for the last four or five years. However, we plan to continue these projects,'' Irakli Gharibashvili said, adding that he has done a lot for the Muslim community and plans to do more.

''Under my government, we laid the foundation for the State Agency For Religious Issues and provided funding for religious minorities sustaining losses under the Soviet Union; these people were absolutely forgotten back then. You know in what unbearable situation servants of god have to live under the previous government,'' Gharibashvili noted, stressing that, among other things, he also plans to legalize the mosque for the Muslim community.
