Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee Mikheil Sarjveladze said that the U.S. Embassy's move to subject Georgian authorities to criticism is ''sad, but he disagrees with their harsh assessment.''

''Despite our failure to agree on some issues, we keep working to reassure our strategic partners, representatives of our allies, and international organizations that they have formed a false impression,'' Sarjveladze declared.

By the decision of the parliament of Georgia, the State Inspectors Service will cease functioning on 1 March 2022.

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia  said in its statement later that ''the ruling party undermined government accountability by abolishing the State Inspector Service.''
