Irakli Kobakhidze: All of 20 candidates will not be approved

"Not all of the 20 candidates for the Supreme Court will be approved. We will know their number and names by Wednesday," Irakli Kobakhidze, the Leader of the parliamentary majority told reporters.

Opposition's plan to refuse the approval of the list of judges is seen as another destructive measure.

"The opposition is constantly trying to bring destructive measures into action. I don't know what they are trying to achieve. We are focused on developing institutions in this country. Our country progressed since 2012 in terms of developing democratic institutions, including the judiciary," Kobakhidze stated.

The interviews with 50 candidates for the Supreme Court judge position completed in August. The shortlist of 20 people was submitted to the Parliament on September 7. The hearing of candidates started on September 23 and ended on November 8.

Zaza Tavadze, Chairman of the Constitutional Court, refused to be a judge of the Supreme Court.
