Irakli Kobakhidze says peaceful transfer of power was not Saakashvili's intention

Parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kobakhidze has responded to Senator Jeanne Shaheen's statement by saying that in 2012, Mikheil Saakashvili and the entire UNM did not want to transfer power to the Georgian Dream.

"They deployed special forces units across the country, and on some occasions, they stormed election administration buildings, for example, in Khashuri. They had these units in each region; however, they had to leave their offices eventually. Saakashvili did take antinational steps back then, and power changed hands in Georgia peacefully thanks to our American and European colleagues. Remembering this is crucial to evaluate current political processes properly," Kobakhidze said.
