In a phone talk, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili on overcoming the political deadlock after the agreement between the parties was reached. The two high officials laid emphasis on the significance of reforms bringing Georgia closer to the EU and NATO.
They also focused on the forthcoming NATO summit to be held in Brussels on 14 June, the importance of the Black Sea region security, and NATO's more active involvement in this process.
Additionally, the parties discussed the issue of Afghanistan and the necessity of continued cooperation in withdrawing troops from the region. The Secretary-General made a special reference to Georgia's role in ensuring peace in Afghanistan, with this playing its part in the future integration.
