Justice minister says Mikheil Saakashvili verbally, physically assaulted prison staff

Justice Minister Rati Bregadze said that ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili physically and verbally assaulted No18 penitentiary establishment employees. ''These employees are responsible for our country's safety and protection of inmates' rights, and we cannot allow anyone to insult them,'' Bregadze stressed. 

In the minister's words, they are looking into the incident, and an adequate legal response to it will be ensured. ''We cannot let anyone offend our exemplary employees who cannot even see their family members for months,'' Bregadze stressed.  

Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili was taken to Gldani prison a while ago.

According to preliminary information, Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to Gori Military Hospital.

Saakashvili's mother said earlier that they ''made him vanish'' somewhere.

Ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, who was detained on Oct 1, has been on a hunger strike for 39 days now.
