"Georgia is ready to submit an official application for EU membership in 2024," Kakha Kuchava, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, told reporters.
According to him, implementing the remaining reforms will be the main task during the following four years.
"We can say that the implementation report, the ambitious plan, and reforms that we have implemented and deserved high praise, allow us to say that by 2024 we will be ready to apply for EU membership. This plan is quite real. If we wanted to use this initiative before the elections, we would have named shorter deadlines, or we would have said that we would apply for membership soon, but we gave a specific date. What we have now is not enough to submit an application tomorrow. The reforms outlined in the plan are left, and after the successful implementation, we will have the possibility to submit an application. Maybe, in its time, the Association Agreement, the free movement was considered unrealistic by many, but we were able to achieve all those mentioned above," Kakha Kuchava said.
