Kelly Degnan: We are concerned about the new legislation of the State Inspector's Service

The US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, is concerned about abolishing the State Inspector's Service.

Kelly Degnan met today with the Chairperson of the Legal Affairs Committee, Anri Okhanashvili, and the Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze. She explained that she talked to the members of parliament about the new legislation related to the State Inspector's Service.

The ambassador says she has questions about the need to make changes expeditiously and is particularly concerned about the article that calls for the dismissal of staff.

Degnan says committee chairpersons have taken notes from the ambassador's remarks.

"We appreciate that we had the opportunity to meet with the chairpersons of the committee. We have expressed concern about the new legislation of the State Inspector's Service. Especially on the article that provides for the dismissal of the entire team of the Inspector's Service. We also had questions about the need to get through this process expeditiously. The committee chairpersons have given us answers, and I think our comments have been taken into account, which I appreciate," Kelly Degnan said.
