Today, on October 2, local self-government elections will be held in Georgia. Polling stations will open at 7:00 am, and pre-voting procedures will take place. The live voting process will begin at 8:00.

Locking up the voting building, terminating, or suspending voting is prohibited unless it is impossible to ensure the universality, equality, and free expression of the will of the electorate.

The voting procedure is underway through the mobile ballot box from 9 am to 7 pm. The ballot box must be returned to the polling station no later than 20:00.

The polling station will be closed at 8 pm. At the moment, the voters in the queue can vote. On the instructions of the chairperson of the district election commission, one of the members of the commission registers the names of the voters in the queue and informs the chairperson about their number. The secretary of the commission writes down the number of voters in the queue in the record book.

The District Election Commission is obliged to make a photocopy of the summary protocol of the voting results immediately. Upon completion of the protocol, send it to the CEC with the technical means at disposal.

The CEC is obliged to ensure the publicity of the summary protocol, including its immediate posting on the CEC website.

Voters will elect mayors and City Councils for a 4-year term.

Voters will elect 64 mayors as well as 2 068 members of 64 City Council (both proportionally and by majoritarian rule).

The candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote in the mayoral election will win.

At the same time, as a result of the electoral reform, a 40% threshold is in force for the election of majoritarian members of the City Council.

In municipalities except for Tbilisi, a 3% threshold for proportional representation has been set. In Tbilisi City Council, the mandates will be distributed proportionally only to those election subjects that will receive at least 2.5% of the votes.

Local self-government bodies elected in 2021 will be more proportionate - in self-governing cities: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Poti, and Batumi, the ratio of City Council members will be four to one, while in other municipalities, the ratio will be two to one.

According to the CEC, 3,513,884 voters are registered on the voter list.
