"There is a very high probability that illegal eavesdropping and collection of information about personal life is taking place," said Nino Lomjaria regarding the possible surveillance of the clergy by the State Security Service and the fact of potential information leakage.
She said that pre-election hearings and, in general, this practice is extremely dangerous and can not happen in a democratic country.
"The State Security Service has the opportunity, and there is no control mechanism to protect ourselves from their illegal interference in our private life; this is a fact, and the Public Defender speaks about it. We have also appealed the current mechanism of hearings in the Constitutional Court precisely because there is no proper control. There have already been a number of cases, including facts reported by the media. The information obtained from the Public Defender gives us grounds to say that the probability is very high that such illegal interceptions and collection of information about personal life take place. This is a gross violation of human rights, and we need to respond to it," said Nino Lomjaria.
Probable written and audio material was spread on the Internet about the clergy and employees of the Patriarchate. The leaked files relate to the private lives of individual clerics. The files also contain information about minors.
