Georgian PM's Special Representative in Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze and Russia's Federation Council Senator Grigory Karasin held an online meeting.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the parties focused on "positive dynamics" in the trade and economic sector. They also pointed out that Russia is Georgia's second trade partner, preceded by Turkey.

The statement by the ministry says that Russia is the largest importer of Georgian wine, with its imports increasing by 28% in the first four months of 2021.

According to the ministry, an emphasis was also laid on "opportunities" for unblocking transport and economic ties in the region, following the joint statements of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.

The Russian side noted at the meeting they managed to implement the agreement of 9 November 2011 on the Mechanism of the Customs Administration and Trade Monitoring between Georgia and Russia.

The sides saluted the outcome of the discussion held on 28 January 2021 on renovating the Lars-Kazbegi border crossing point and agreed to coordinate further steps to improve transport links.

The sides agreed that the next meeting between Zurab Abashidze and Grigory Karasin would be conducted face-to-face this year if the pandemic allows them to do so.
