Memorandums of Understanding got signed for the first time during the official visit of the President of Georgia to the Vatican.

According to the President of Georgia, education and culture are very important and priority directions for the future development of our country. In this regard, it is important to preserve and deepen the traditions and Christian values of our country, the development of which is very valuable.

"One of such traditional values is tolerance, which has historically followed Georgia. People of all religions and faiths are accepted in Georgia, being one of the centers of intercultural dialogue. Cooperation with you on this path and in these directions will be very important," the President said.

During the meeting, the President of Georgia came up with several initiatives, including the establishment of a Georgia-Vatican Permanent Scientific Council, which will translate old Georgian Christian literature.

The memorandums of cooperation in the field of culture and education were signed by the President of the Vatican Catholic Education Congregation, Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, and the President of the Vatican Pontifical Council for Culture Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.

From the Georgian side, the memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Nunu Mitskevich and the First Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs of Georgia Kakha Sikharulidze.

According to the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Nunu Mitskevich, it is important that an agreement is signed between the states in the field of education and culture for the first time, which will allow more active cooperation between researchers, scientists, and academics in our country.

"This memorandum allows us to take further steps to bring the Georgian Institute of Manuscripts and the Vatican archives even closer. The memorandum will allow Georgian researchers to access the Vatican archives, and the material that has been preserved and unpublished over the years will be made public," Nunu Mitskevich stated.

The Vatican is ready for Georgia to join the global call Global Compact on Education, which includes relations between peoples and cooperation in the fields of education, science, innovation, and technology, which are essential for the upbringing of future generations.
