MEP hopes elections will bring Georgia required balance

MEP Markéta Gregorová, who has arrived in Georgia to observe the 2 October elections, hopes that there will be no instances of violence on election day, and the elections will bring the required balance to Georgia.

Gregorová said that sadly the local self-government elections are more associated with a referendum and qualified as the parliamentary elections. ''I call upon the parties to offer specific action plans to people. Violence and persecution accompanying elections are nothing new; however, hopefully, the 5 July developments will not be repeated in these elections,'' she said.

The European Parliament, together with the OSCE/ODIHR and the Congress of the Council of Europe (CoE), will observe the 2 October elections in Georgia.

The delegation of the European Parliament is comprised of seven MEPs.
