MEP Kubilius says the time is ripe for taking actual steps to let Georgia into the EU

MEP Andrius Kubilius said in his speech in the European Parliament that the time is ripe when they must take actual steps to allow Georgia and Ukraine to enter the EU.

In the MEP's words, they cannot allow Russia to blackmail them; neither can they pursue the policy of appeasing Putin.

Kubilius likened the Russian leader to Hitler by saying that, like Hitler, he is blackmailing the West, requiring that it abandon Ukraine and Georgia. The MEP stressed that unless the West is going to surrender, it must now take actual steps to admit Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova to the EU, and, as he said, tomorrow's Eastern Partnership Summit must lay a foundation for this.

According to Andrius Kubilius, they must also focus on the NATO membership Plan as unless this happens, it will become clear that they have sacrificed the countries' future to appease Putin.

In his speech, Kubilius also focused on NATO's decision not to invite Georgia and Ukraine into the alliance in 2008 to pacify Putin; however, the decision proved counterproductive as Putin decided he could have waged wars against Georgia and Ukraine. ''If we surrender now, we will be held accountable for creating an actual and aggressive fascism in the 21st century,'' the MEP declared.
