NATO summit communique will send strong messages about Georgia, says James Appathurai

The NATO summit communique will send strong messages about how much importance the alliance places on the partnership with Georgia, said James Appathurai, NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, in his interview with ''Kronika.''

In Mr. Appathurai's words, the alliance plans to adopt a communique in which its members will strongly support NATO's Open Door Policy. According to him, NATO is expanding, with new members joining it, and this has already been proved lately. ''States will join NATO despite Russia disliking this and Moscow taking action to destabilize the situation in these states. The summit will send strong messages,'' Appathurai said, adding that in their communique, NATO member countries will show their support to Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

According to James Appathurai, the declaration will convey some strong messages about the Black Sea region, demonstrating that NATO strives to ensure peace and security there and do more together with Georgia and Ukraine. ''The communique will comprise some elements clarifying the fields of cooperation,'' he said.
