Nika Melia, the chairperson of the United National Movement and Tbilisi mayoral candidate, says he will step down as party chairperson if he wins the second round of local elections.
"It will be impossible for me to be the chairperson of the National Movement after the victory and serve as the mayor of the capital. We have to be honest with the people of Tbilisi.
First, I have to be the mayor of the capital. The same should be done by party officials who will be represented in the government by other parties. It does not mean that we should leave the party," Nika Melia said on TV Pirveli.
The second round of self-government elections in Georgia will be held on October 30.
According to the preliminary results of the CEC, the second round will be held in Tbilisi between Kakha Kaladze and Nika Melia.
