Today, the Parliament of Georgia will vote on the constitutional amendments in the third hearing. The discussion and voting will start at 12:00.

Opposition factions, the United National Movement, and European Georgia will not take part in the voting. Opposition lawmakers say they will only support the changes if Giorgi Rurua is released.

A total of 113 votes are needed to pass the constitutional amendments. At the moment, 116 deputies have openly expressed their support.

On June 23, the Parliament of Georgia voted in the second hearing on the constitutional amendments. The project was supported by 115 deputies, with three against.

According to the constitutional amendments, the 2020 parliamentary elections will occur under a mixed electoral system 120/30 and a 1% threshold.

The bill covers the so-called 40% shutdown mechanism, which means that a party that receives less than 40.54% support in the 2020 parliamentary elections under the proportional system will not be able to independently form a government.
