Peace, cooperation and stability are strongest driving forces for region's sustainable development, Zalkaliani says

At the annual conference called Georgia and the Neighbourhood, Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani focused his attention on the involvement of the U.S. and NATO in strengthening the Black Sea region's security.

In Zalkaliani's words, Georgia has remained an attractive country for the U.S. investments, and the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has recently transferred 50 mln USD for the development of the Poti port infrastructure.

The Minister also emphasized the great significance of deepening regional cooperation and said that Georgia's one of the key priorities has always been regional cooperation, which is the strongest driving force of long-term and sustainable development.

Zalkaliani expressed his hope that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway(BTK) will soon be constructed, and it would connect the Central Asian countries to Georgia's transport and communication projects.

""The trilateral Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey relations serve as the best example of this. We are devoted to the idea of the implementation of the Southern Energy Corridor Project. Unique regional synergy exists among our countries: the possibility of meeting Azerbaijan's increasing demand for energy resources, on the one hand, and transit potential of Georgia and Turkey, on the other, with this making the provision of additional resources to European markets possible. Another example of regional collaboration is the opening of the second phase of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project, which starts a new era of the European security and ensures the operation of the Southern Gas Corridor at its full capacity, by the Georgian Prime Minister and the Azerbaijani and Turkish leaders," Zalkaliani declared.

Steven Bigan, US Assistant Secretary of State, also participated in the annual conference organized by the Levan Mikeladze Foundation and The America Georgia Business Council.
