The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, set a date for the elections of Parliament of Georgia and the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

According to the decrees issued today, the President named October 31 as the election date and addressed the public:

"I signed the act announcing the polls today. Parliamentary elections in our country will take place on October 31, as provided by our Constitution. I want to address the public and urge you to spend this period, these two months leading up to the elections, as peacefully as possible.

In today's conditions, when we already went through the coronavirus pandemic and quite a challenging year, it is necessary to prepare calmly for the elections.

This election has a special meaning! We will reaffirm the democracy of our country once again.

Just like a few months ago, today, our society has shown to the world that it can manage severe epidemic and show with its high public consciousness that we are responsible citizens. We must act the same way when it comes to elections.

I know and believe that we can hold the next elections democratically, peacefully, and transparently.

Thirty years ago, on October 28, 1990, Georgia held democratic elections even then.

We must continue this tradition, strengthen it, and present ourselves to the world as an extremely democratic country. We can do it!" Salome Zurabishvili stated.
