Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has met with newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan.

At the meeting, the top officials focused on the opportunities for strengthening strategic partnerships and deepening relations between the two countries.

Giorgi Gakharia and Kelly Degnan elaborated upon the priorities of the Georgian government, which the Ambassador deemed positive. Close cooperation between the two countries in different fields was also mentioned, and attention was focused on those tangible results which the countries have produced in the fields of defense and security.

"I am immensely pleased as the meeting was extremely productive. We discussed various issues, such as cooperation in the field of security, economic collaboration, as well as possibilities to develop stronger economic connections.

We also thoroughly discussed the importance of education, including the initiative by the USAID on implementing a 7M program in Georgia," Kelly Degnan said, adding that 2020 proves to be a turning point for both countries as elections are set to be held in both the U.S. and Georgia.

The Head of the Georgian Government thanked the Ambassador for her country's resolute support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and once again stressed that Georgia is unwavering in its decision to follow the path to the European Union.

The Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor Irakli Chikovani also defined the meeting as immensely interesting and productive.
