“Qualification of judges still remains a challenge”, Tea Tsulukiani the Minister of Justice of Georgia responded to the criticism and recommendation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Co-reporters of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe have issued the statement on the procedure for electing judges. Assembly co-reporters urge the parliament to appoint as many judges as necessary for efficient work of the Supreme Court. They are also concerned about the process according to which the High Council of Justice compiled the list of judicial candidates sent to parliament. According to them all of these defects could have been avoided if the government fully followed the Venice Commission recommendations.
