Reconciliation attempt with opposition: President meets ambassadors

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met with facilitating ambassadors to discuss the issue of resumption of a dialogue with political opponents, according to the Administration of the President.

Carl Hartzell, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Head of the Council of Europe Office Cristian Urse, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, and Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Georgia Michael Fabri, were present at the meeting.

The parties exchanged information on ongoing developments in Georgia and showed full readiness to engage in reconciliation and rapprochement processes.

Salome Zurabishvili put forward the initiation on the resumption of dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition.

The Georgian Dream party has also proposed that the dialogue be resumed, with them having no other option, according to the leader of the party Mamuka Mdinaradze.

The leftist leaders refused to hold negotiations with the governing party after the Supreme Court rendered the verdict on a European Party leader Gigi Ugulava's case. The Court declared Ugulava guilty and sent him to jail for three years.

The western partners called upon the parties to resume the dialogue.
