Salome Samadashvili will 'no longer pursue political activities on behalf of UNM'

UNM member Salome Samadashvili said in her social media post that she would no longer continue political activities on the party’s behalf; however, in her words, she will make a final decision after UNM head Nika Melia is released from prison.

‘’In the long and tough process of negotiations, we have already reached a conclusive phase: the offered document was final, and it no longer could have been subject to any changes. I think that we will reach our maximum in this process, with political prisoners released from police custody, snap elections called, and election system reform passed,’’ she said in her post.

In Samadashvili’s words, she shared her position with her team members, and at the political council meeting, they agreed that the document will not be signed until the UNM head enjoys freedom.

‘’At this point, I no longer plan to pursue political activities on behalf of the UNM. As for the official statement, I will release it after my friend Nika Melia is freed,’’ she wrote.

The representatives of the ruling and opposition political parties signed the agreement at Orbeliani palace, with the National Movement, European Georgia, and Labor parties refusing to sign it. Despite her party’s decision not to do so, Samadashvili signed the agreement and was subject to criticism as a result. After this, she said in her social media post that ‘’there is no room for her in this misunderstanding.’’
