Sopho Kiladze: We must deal with responsibility with dignity

"We have given the government some authority to maintain the situation we had in the country in terms of the pandemic, so that the virus does not spread as we see it, unfortunately in too many countries," the chairperson of the Human Rights Committee said.

According to Sopho Kiladze, without declaring a state of emergency, granting the government the right to impose restrictive measures positively impacted the country's epidemiological situation.

"We decided to hand over this authority to the government for a certain period. I think it was right, and that was justified. However, the pandemic has gone nowhere and is strongly represented in different countries around the world. We need to decide to give the government some authority so that the situation in the country does not get worse. Of course, no one is happy to impose restrictions on our citizens, but we need to take certain steps to prevent the virus from spreading. For the part of the opposition, it may be even joyful if the situation in the country deteriorates, but we are a government that has a great responsibility towards people, and we must handle this responsibility with dignity," Kiladze said.

According to the draft amendment to the Law on Health, without the declaration of a state of emergency, the government might have the right to impose restrictive measures until the end of 2020.
