Tbilisi Mayor's official visit to Azerbaijan ends

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze's official visit to Azerbaijan has come to an end. Within the framework of his two-day visit, Kaladze met with the Azerbaijani president, prime minister, and Baku Mayor. They have also signed the memorandum on the establishment of twin-city relations between Tbilisi and Baku.

''The visit proved immensely interesting and important. We have met with the president, prime minister, and city leadership. Most importantly, the memorandum on the establishment of twin-city relations has been signed. Partnerships have linked Tbilisi and Baku since 1997; after becoming the twin cities, more mutual cultural projects will be implemented both in Tbilisi and Baku. At the meeting with the president, emphasis was placed on amicable relations between the two countries, strategic partnerships, the role and significance of Georgia and Azerbaijan in the region. Overall, the visit proved immensely successful,'' Kakha Kaladze declared.

Mayor of Baku Eldar Azizov also assessed the Georgia-Azerbaijan relations.

''We have the history of friendship and cooperation, with these relations having great potential. We have signed the memorandum on the establishment of twin-city relations, but this is just a formal aspect, as amicable relations have always linked Tbilisi and Baku. Our ethnic groups have always lived in both countries: Azerbaijanis in Georgia and Georgians in Azerbaijan. Friendship and cooperation have always bonded us. The visit piqued interest in the country as Mr. Kakha Kaladze is also popular here. I felt he is a patriot; he loves his people and is loyal to his country. We have discussed lots of issues, and I think this visit will give us new incentives to develop our relations,'' Eldar Azizov stated.

The memorandum on the establishment of twin-city relations between Tbilisi and Baku was concluded on 13 July. The document envisages all-encompassing cooperation in culture, art, tourism, urban planning, environmental protection, transport, information technology, energy infrastructure, waste management, youth affairs and sports, trade, business relations, etc.
