The U.S. Department of State calls upon the government of Georgian to subject ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to fair treatment.
''We are keeping a watchful eye on the ongoing developments and call upon the Georgian government to ensure that Mr. Saakashvili is subject to fair treatment in accordance with the legislation of Georgia and Georgia's international obligations in the human rights sphere,'' State Department Press Secretary Ned Price declared.
Third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili was detained on 1 October.
